Hi, I'm Tobie! I'm a photographer specializing in Events and Concerts, and Creative Portraits. I've photographed numerous leading venues across London, including Crazy Coq's Soho, Vortex Jazz Club, Pizza Express The Pheasantry and The Actors' Church. I've also photographed private and corporate clients for Portraits (artistic and headshot), Events, and Architecture and Heritage. Alongside professional photography I'm passionate about nature, and dedicate a lot of time to exploring the natural world to photograph animals! I enjoy videography and am always very happy recording high quality video content.
For an added bonus, if you choose to work with me for video, I am a skilled recording, mix and mastering engineer, so can take care of any of the audio-related needs your project might have! On larger scale projects I have a pool of colleagues and friends in the industry, so am always happy to bring a team to achieve the best results.
I have extensively studied lighting and composition, and have a particular interest in capturing (and shaping) light to form the most interesting compositions. I work with high quality professional gear, including lighting, gimbal's, multiple cameras and a variety of lenses. I also pride myself on balancing my creative flair (as well as a photographer I'm a jazz musician!) with technical proficiency, in order to create striking, unique and well composed and exposed photographs, for any occasion and any brief!
Photographing wildlife and concerts presents some unique challenges, with it often being impossible to influence the lighting, the positions of the subjects, and sometimes even your own position. Because of my specialisms in these areas, I have developed the ability to adapt and thrive in any photography environment, whether I have control over the scene or not!
Have a scroll through my photography and videography portfolio. You will be able to find a selection of my work, which ranges from wildlife, to portraits, to events, concerts and more, as well as some recent client testimonials.
A good intuitive feeling makes a great photographer and Tobie Medland has bags of it. Capturing just one cool collective moment of a band performing on stage is a challenging task. Tobie managed four photos of our gig and some great individuals also. Having ideas for the composition is one thing… feeling the moment and then bringing in the tech ability to pull it off when it happens, is another skill.
I’m really delighted at these pictures, helped I’ve no doubt by the fact he is a musician, but I’ve seen his nature photos which are also very enticing.
- Dave Kelbie: Producer, Label Boss, Musician
Tobie has videoed and photographed several of my live performances and I recommend him highly in both capacities. He is professional, efficient, and punctual with a strong eye for what is effective in both video and camera work. He is easy to work with, is quick to adapt to the live setting, and will offer strong creative ideas as well as being willingly receptive to ideas to get the best result for your event.
His editing work is excellent, and he has always supplied a quick turnaround with the finished product. He has produced several promotional videos for my musical work, all of which have been of the highest quality and have received positive feedback from promoters and agents.
- Shirley Smart: Concert cellist and Professor of Musicianship at Royal College of Music, London
I'm a professional double bassist from London. I asked Tobie to take some photographs of me with my instrument to use in promotional material and press for my various musical projects. I am so happy with the outcome. Tobie suggested the ideal location which was reasonably close to my home and easy to get to. He took on my requirements and then made great artistic suggestions to try many different settings and angles. This was an outdoor shoot but he even brought along his own lights.
Within a couple of days of the shoot he had chosen and carefully edited the best photos and asked me for feedback and thoughts on further editing. Thanks Tobie for your energy, creativity and enthusiasm and for making the process so easy and worthwhile
